When this is complete, your bootable Mac OS X Lion installation disc is complete! You can now boot any Lion compatible Mac with the USB drive, just plug in the USB key, hold down Option on the first boot and select the drive. Now wait while the Lion DMG is restored to the USB drive, it may take a while and you will see a screen like this: Make sure you have the right things in the right places, you don’t want to format the wrong drive – then click “Recover”.Drag the formatted USB key to the “Destination” and check “Delete Destination”.This is why we mounted the InstallESD.dmg file earlier, as we can just drag and drop the “Mac OS X Install ESD” image to the “Source” – if you haven’t mounted the image, you can Search and select image manually. Now you need to set the source disk for the restore.
Right click on the USB drive in Disk Utility and select “Restore”.Now that the USB stick has been formatted to the correct file system, let’s do that restore the previously mounted InstallESD.dmg file to the empty USB drive. Choose “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” as the format and give the USB key whatever name you want.Select your USB drive on the left side of Disk Utility and then click the “Erase” tab.Then we format the USB stick, this becomes the bootable Lion installer:
